Shen Yun Popular with People In and Out of China

The Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company gave five shows at the Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater in New York from January 11 to 15, 2012. Tickets for all five shows were hard to come by. Despite the cold, people stood outside the theater waiting for a spare ticket, including standing room only tickets.

Carman L. Lapointe of Canada, Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Services (POPS) at the United Nations, watched the Shen Yun performance on January 14. She said that it was a very beautiful and extraordinary show that helped her gain a better understanding of Chinese culture. She had gone online to purchase a ticket and was surprised to find that all the tickets had been sold. She luckily was able to get one ticket before the show started, but her friends could not get tickets.

Meanwhile, in China many people are hoping to get a Shen Yun DVD, as the show is banned there. One older man said, “I received a Shen Yun DVD in my mailbox last year. After watching the show I was very excited. I visited my neighbors and asked if they had also received the DVD. What a good show! However, I was the only one who had received the DVD in the entire building.”

One lady said when she ran into a practitioner, “Hey, finally I see you again. You don’t know how many times I have watched the DVD you gave me last time. Unfortunately, the DVD has broken. Is it because I watched it too many times? I am very glad to see you again. Do you have another copy for me?”

Persecuted for Distributing Shen Yun DVDs

Despite the popularity of the Shen Yun shows, the CCP subjects those who pass out the DVDs to persecution. Ms. Liu Suying, a practitioner from Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, was reported in January 2012 when distributing Shen Yun DVDs to students, and was later arrested by officers from the Huifeng Police Station.

Ms. Zhu Peilin, Ms. Chen Wenying and Ms. Hu Mingzhen, retired employees from the Materials Company of Xiangyang Munitions Factory, were reported when handing out Shen Yun DVDs at the Shi Market in Xiangyang. They were held at the Xiangyang City Detention Center and the police ransacked their homes.

Ms. Li Guiying from Changchun was arrested on the evening of August 16, 2009 when distributing Shen Yun DVDs in the countryside. She tried to clarify the truth to the police officer in the car, but was repeatedly beaten. She was taken to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp. On March 2, 2011, she was taken from the forced labor camp to the Xinglongshan Brainwashing Center by staff from the 610 Office.

Longing for the Return of China’s Divine Culture

Art is without boundaries and of universal value. The beauty derived from the spirit of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, as espoused by Falun Gong, is something everyone can identify with and aspire to.

The CCP has done all kinds of things to interfere with Shen Yun’s performances overseas and arrested practitioners who distributed the Shen Yun DVDs in Mainland China. Their despicable acts are incomprehensible. Traditional culture embodies an orthodox way of thinking and frame of mind, which benefits everyone. Once people accept their cultural heritage and the Falun Gong principles, they will make the right choice when they encounter Falun Dafa. Once this happens, they will choose kindness and righteousness, and stand against evil and brutality. At that point, the CCP will disintegrate.

One of Shen Yun’s goals is to help the Chinese people reconnect with their traditions and find their roots, as well as their spiritual beliefs. That is what the CCP fears the most, and why the CCP has tried everything to destroy China’s culture over the past several decades. However, both in and out of China, the CCP’s efforts have been, and will continue to be, in vain.
