Israel: “There is a Holocaust in China,” Says Journalist, as Rally Marks 14 Years of Falun Gong’s Persecution in China (Photos)

(Minghui.org) “There is a Holocaust in China,” stated Israeli journalist and broadcaster Billy Beserglick in her speech in front of the Chinese Embassy in Tel Aviv on July 22, 2013.

“I’m the second generation after World War II Holocaust. My parents were in Auschwitz and miraculously survived. [Otherwise,] I might very well not be here now,” she said.

Israeli journalist and broadcaster Billy Beserglick speaks at the rally marking 14 years of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Ms. Beserglick imagined a woman her age being held in a basement of a forced labor camp after torture, “It’s shocking that in 2013 a Holocaust occurs, and the world goes ‘business as usual.’”

“Those are terrible things,” she said of the crimes committed by the Chinese communist regime. “Organs are harvested from people in concentration camps!”

“We should not turn a blind eye!” she concluded.

On this summer day, two hundred people didn’t. They came to protest the regime’s crimes against humanity and its 14-year-long brutal persecution of millions of law-abiding citizens in China–practitioners of the ancient spiritual cultivation practice called Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong), who believe in the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.

Over these years, the Chinese regime has directed officials and agencies at all levels of government, and state-owned enterprises, to carry out the persecution, spending billions of dollars and sparing no expense.

The peak of the horror is the use of Falun Gong practitioners as a source of organs for transplantation. In military hospitals and under heavy military supervision, organs have been harvested from people while they are still alive, so that the regime and its cadres can get a higher price. Tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been killed this way, and thousands more were killed through other types of horrific torture in forced labor camps and prisons across China.

Falun Dafa Association Spokesperson: Dispelling the Communist Regime’s Lies, We See Hope

“It was jealousy that stirred up the persecution,” explained Roy Bar-Ilan, a spokesperson for the Israeli Falun Dafa Association, “because it is an amazing cultivation practice. It became very popular very quickly in China, and then all of a sudden, tens of millions of good people became the largest group of prisoners of conscience in the world. The severity of the persecution – rape, shocks by electric batons, 45,000 to 60,000 organ harvesting cases, according to modest estimates – millions of people, of families, have suffered intensely and on an unparalleled scale.

“At first, everyone repeated the propaganda, and thus, in fact, promoted the persecution. Yesterday I found an article published in a major Israeli media in July 2001. It was written there that 14 practitioners had committed suicide in prison, and the prison authorities had ‘saved’ 11 others. It was also written that the Chinese government had decided to place Falun Gong practitioners in labor camps and monitor them around the clock as if they were worried about their safety. This story made me cry. In actuality, it should have been a report on the murder of the 14 practitioners, [who were just] like me, my wife and my children.”

Bar-Ilan continued, “We were able to overturn the lies that the Chinese regime created as part of its repression. Now people in the world do not believe the lies of the Chinese Communist Party. Yet many still can’t truly understand what Falun Gong is all about.

“To be a Falun Gong practitioner is to continuously try to improve oneself, to not blame others when encountering conflicts, but instead look inward, to not hit back when being attacked or sworn at, and to take loss and gain lightly.

“To be a Falun Gong practitioner is to get rid of selfishness and deviated thoughts. It is to strive to be considerate of others, to be an uncompromising moral example that does not bend in the face of profit or threat of any kind.

“In the face of the propaganda machine of the Chinese government, their media, embassies, and business and industrial relations all over the world, we are armed only with our hearts full of compassion and our determination to not let the evil, though influence, win the battle of humanity’s morality and future.

“We go out [to raise awareness about the persecution] day after day not for any gain, but because we believe that mankind still has hope, that the hearts of human beings still harbor morality and kindness… And the fact that you are here today proves that we are right, proves that there is hope.”

Epoch Times Director: “Silence Is What Allows These Crimes to Carry On”

“One cannot be neutral,” said Gilad Slonim, director of the Israeli edition of theEpoch Times at the rally. “We [Jews] have been through a genocide, where a dictator decided to destroy us because what we believed in did not suit him, and now we are directly or indirectly helping the same kind of a regime to carry out this persecution.

“Thus, one can’t be neutral in this battle. Everybody would like to be neutral, [thinking] ‘Why get involved? Why put this pain into my head? It’s happening so far away – it has nothing to do with us…’ This is not true! It is related to each and every one of us. Everyone today has to take a side.

“Not taking a proactive step against this persecution is equal to siding with it, since then you agree to be silent. Silence is what allows these crimes to carry on.”

“July 20th–a Great Shame in Mankind’s History”

Two Chinese Falun Gong practitioners living in Israel spoke in front of the Chinese Embassy, addressing not only the crowd, but also people at the embassy.

“In my opinion, the day of July 20th will remain as a great shame in history of mankind,” one of them said. “Why do I say so? Because 14 years ago on July 20th in China – such a big country with 1.3 billion people – the CCP [Chinese Communist Party] launched a brutal persecution of Falun Dafa.”

“Falun Dafa practitioners are people of good reputation in China,” she said. “There are many people who have a sense of justice and ask the 610 Office wicked policemen, ‘You do not catch the bad guys but specifically target good people. What kind of people are you?'”

“Some people have done a test with a mobile phone, sending out a text message. Messages with the words ‘truthfulness, compassion, forbearance’ [the main principles of Falun Gong] were blocked [by the regime]. But messages with the words ‘false, evil, fighting” were received. This shows to what extent the CCP has put China under its brutal control, so that the basic morality has been completely wiped out.

“However, the remaining goodness of Chinese people has begun to emerge as they learn the truth about the Communist regime. Now more than 140 million Chinese people have quit the CCP and its related organizations.”

Voices of Support for Falun Gong

Dr. Amir Shani from the New Liberal Movement called for the end to the persecution. In a taped interview he said, “We are here to express empathy and solidarity with innocent Falun Gong practitioners persecuted for no reason by the communist regime in China.” Many members of the New Liberal Movement group from various sides of the political map and social spectrum came to support the rally.

Rabbi Chaim Cohen from the Rabbis for Human Rights organization has attend numerous rallies calling for the end to the persecution of Falun Gong in China. In a powerful voice he declared, “We must stop the terrible persecution against Falun Gong!” He added that trading between Beijing and Jerusalem must take into account human rights.

Herzl Hakak, chairman of the Hebrew Writers Association, and Balfour Hakak, the organization’s former chairman, sent a statement to be read at the rally, “The phenomenon of psychiatric torture and organ harvesting is utterly shocking, both for their severity and scope, and for the betrayal of the ‘doctor’s oath,’ which every doctor takes to protect the sanctity of human life. Here in front of us, are physicians within the establishment [in China] … using their medical knowledge to violate human rights and endanger human life.”

Rabbi Shlomo Aviner also sent a letter of support, “Be strong and brave for the sake of justice and righteousness, for the protection of every person on Earth who is unjustly persecuted. This is our duty to protest and raise our voices. And when all voices are joined, it will eventually lead to salvation.”

“A Bleeding Lotus Flower”

The rally was accompanied by the sounds of an Erhu (an ancient Chinese stringed instrument) solo piece, “A Bleeding Lotus Flower.” The music was composed as a protest against the Chinese regime’s crimes of organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.

The solo tells of a true story revealed in 2009 by a security guard who had witnessed in 2002 how two military surgeons harvested the heart and kidneys of a Falun Gong practitioner while she was still alive.

This practitioner had been illegally arrested because of her belief in Falun Gong. She was a teacher, and the devoted mother of a 12-year-old son. While she was held in custody, she was brutally and repeatedly raped by the police. They also tortured her and shocked her with electric batons for seven days.

She was then taken to the fifth floor of the General Military Hospital of Shen-Yang City. The surgeon cut open her chest without any anesthesia, while she was fully conscious and wide awake. When the surgeon cut her heart arteries, she died.

Her last words were, “Falun Dafa is Good!”

NYC Grand Parade Reveals History of Falun Dafa

Spectators learn about beauty of Falun Dafa, as well as persecution of the practice in China

NEW YORK—Falun Dafa practitioner Yi Fan did not want to move to America when she left China two-and-a-half years ago because she wished to let more Chinese people know that Falun Dafa is good. Falun Dafa is a self-cultivation practice involving gentle exercise, meditation, and a teaching of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance.

Fan was living under constant threat of arbitrary arrest and torture. She was imprisoned for many years and tortured for telling the truth about Falun Gong, but she said she would have never renounced her belief in the practice or disavowed its principles.

“A lot of people in China are fooled by the CCP [Chinese Communist Party], by their lies,” she said through a translator. Fan, nearly 60 years old, finally surrendered to her daughter’s pleas to leave the mainland and move to the United States, and she immediately discovered the joy of freely practicing Falun Dafa again.

On Saturday, May 18, Fan was part of an annual Falun Dafa parade, surrounded by hundreds of brightly colored banners, and standing in line with nearly 8,000 other practitioners from all over the world.

After seeing the parade Ms. Zeng, a spectator, said the Chinese government cannot suppress Falun Gong. More and more people are participating and Falun Gong is well respected, she said.

It is on account of the persecution that Fan suffered, and the communist party’s hurtful propaganda which so contradicts their positive experience of Falun Dafa, that practitioners assemble in Manhattan for a weekend of events every year. Practitioners say they want to clarify to the public what Falun Dafa is, and tell people about the persecution in China.

Reema Dossa, from St. Petersburg in Russia, was among 20 other Russians in the parade. She has also been practicing Falun Gong for 11 years, and noted that a parade would not be possible in Russia. Soviet authorities repress Falun Gong to appease the CCP, she said.

“In this country freedom is good,” she added, struggling to express in English her enthusiasm for the Manhattan parade.

“Falun Dafa taught me to be a caring person and how to behave according to truthfulness, compassion and forbearance,” said Elsa Chen, 28, also from Australia.

The parade was filled with exciting, as well as solemn sections representative of the story of Falun Dafa’s journey since its introduction in 1992. It included a marching band, traditional Chinese waist drummers, dancing heavenly beauties, floats, simulations of torture practitioners have suffered in China, memorials for practitioners who lost their lives due to the persecution, and people raising awareness of a movement in China where 138 million Chinese have withdrawn from the CCP and its affiliated organizations.

Bystander Nathan Jarvis, a retail manager visiting New York from Wilmington, North Carolina, said he was surprised at the size and scope of the parade, and the number of countries represented.

“The impressive thing about this is how many people they have in this parade protesting in support of the rights of people in China that are being oppressed.”

“They way they are treated is just crazy too. It’s hard to understand, and it is hard to understand why we just ignore it,” Jarvis added.

Bystander Giulia Baettig, 18, from Switzerland, said she was grateful that the parade had enabled her to find out about Falun Dafa and the persecution in China.

“It is really shocking they are being killed,” she said. “I would have never found out if they had not [had a parade].”

Zeng added “people are getting to know the truth about Falun Gong.”

Coming for You Over Thousands of Miles

Home > Practicing Falun Dafa > Experience Sharing Conferences Worldwide

December 22, 2012 | By a Dafa practitioner from Kaohsiung

en.minghui.org

(Minghui.org) Greetings to our compassionate Master and fellow practitioners.

I obtained the Fa three years ago. Looking back at the days prior to my obtaining the Fa, it seems that everything had long been arranged by Master. It is just like what Master has mentioned in the “2008 New York Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference,”

“Now is the final moment that concludes arrangements that are eons old. History’s progression to this point today has not been easy, fraught as it’s been with hardship and ups and downs.”

I would like to share with you my experience of how I began Falun Dafa cultivation Practice, along with two touching stories from this summer vacation.

1. My Entire Family is Indeed Very Fortunate to have Obtained the Fa at This Final Stage

I grew up in an affluent environment, and later earned my PhD degree in science and engineering in the United States. Since returning to Taiwan, I have been teaching at a prestigious university. I have two lovely children and a considerate husband, and previously had been satisfied with my achievements. About a year ago, when the American movie 2012 was showing, we noticed how real the natural and man-made disasters all around the world seemed. They showed many earthquakes in Taiwan. One time, when my daughter was alone in the bathroom, there was an earthquake. After that, she was fearful. When an earthquake occurred in the middle of the night, all I could do was comfort my children and pray to heaven. At that time, I suddenly realized that human beings are so fragile. No matter how much one owns in the world, when a sudden powerful natural disaster takes place, we can lose everything. Though both my husband and I have PhD degrees in science, in the face of natural disasters, we are helpless. This made me feel very frustrated.

My husband handed me a copy of the book Zhuan Falun, and I read it through within a very short period of time. It seemed to be quite simple, but it cleared the doubts that had long been in my mind about quantum mechanics. I was surprised to find that natural science, which I have painstakingly studied over the past ten plus years, was so insignificant compared with everything mentioned in Zhuan Falun. I made it a rule to read the Dafa books regularly, so I have put aside all other leisure books and have seriously studied Zhuan Falunrepeatedly every day. I also feel that the teachings in this book have solved many issues in my life, and I am now full of joy and happiness. As my husband, my children, and I obtained the Fa one by one, we studied the Fa together at a fixed time every day. This is now the happiest time of our day. Based on the teachings, we understand that nothing is accidental. We look inward whenever there are conflicts and conduct ourselves according to the universal principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I noticed that my timid daughter gradually lost her nervousness. Since starting cultivation I have gained the ability to calmly deal with unexpected situations, eliminated unknown fears, and experienced a peaceful mind.

2. Enlightened from the 2012 International Fa Conference at the U.S. Capital

In Mid-July of this year, my entire family went to Washington, DC, to attend the Fahui. Shortly after signing up, a coordinator informed us that my husband and I would be the coordinators for this trip. Later, I thought that we should do everything, including booking hotel rooms and arranging transportation, etc. At first I was afraid and had a negative thought, which was, “Had I known this, I would not have signed up for the trip.” At this point, my daughter said, “We should not have to stop taking baths because there are insects.” (Lecture Seven in Zhuan Falun) It suddenly dawned on me that this was something Master wanted me to enlighten to through my daughter’s words. Because it is such a sacred matter, how could I give it up just because of my own attachment to fear? Didn’t this happen so that I could improve? When I saw my husband busy with collecting information and making plans for the trip, I discovered a gap between us. In this way, our group of around 40 people, ranging in age from 6 to about 80, went ahead with our trip to the Fahui and Fa-validation activities.

In Washington, DC, when we had group Fa study and experience sharing one evening, and some practitioners suggested that our group should do the exercises outside the hotel the next morning, so that more everyday people could see the magnificence of Dafa. My husband and I got up early the following morning. When I noticed that our son and daughter were sleeping soundly, I hesitated whether I should ask them to join the exercises downstairs. Suddenly, the fire alarm sounded and everyone had to evacuate the hotel. We immediately woke the children and followed the crowd downstairs. As it was very crowded in the stairways, many practitioners were already doing the fifth exercise by the time we reached the ground floor square. I realized my own gap. Because I had overslept a few minutes, I was trapped in the crowd of everyday people, as if I was fleeing from a calamity. We quickly joined the other practitioners, and soon noticed that surprisingly all the occupants of the hotel had been evacuated to the square. They surrounded us and stared at us with curiosity and admiration. Some took pictures with their cell phones. Compared to the panicking crowd around us, the cultivators were calm and peaceful. I was touched to tears, stood up right away, took fliers from my bag, and told the people around us the fact about Dafa. In Master’s lecture “What Is a Dafa Disciple,” he mentioned,

“…the people in this world—which encompasses all beings that have a connection with Fa-rectification—are not so ordinary. All have come for the Fa-rectification, were formed for the Fa-rectification, and were forged for the Fa-rectification. Nothing is accidental, and in the future you will see this.”

The fire alarm also caused me to realize that I should let go of my attachment to affection toward my children. Master said,

“Cultivation practice must take place through tribulations so as to test whether you can part with and care less about different kinds of human sentimentality and desires. If you are attached to these things, you will not succeed in cultivation.” (Lecture Four of Zhuan Falun)

I misunderstood and thought if I let my children sleep more that this would be good for them. But as soon as I heard the siren, I woke them up without having a second thought. I was clearly reminded that cultivation is a serious matter, and it is also the only way home. I had been deluded in the illusion of everyday people. I am very thankful to Master for helping me to enlighten.

On our return trip, the airplane was unable to take off due to technical problems, and we had to stay overnight at a transit hotel in New York. Even worse, our luggage was transported to another city. I didn’t feel upset however. Instead, I felt relieved, as if a heavy burden had been lifted. That night, we sat on the floor in the hallway barefooted and opened the doors of our hotel rooms for ventilation. We studied the Fa together and shared the experiences we had gained over the past days. I felt unprecedented relief and calmness. Wasn’t this the lifestyle we are looking forward to, that is, returning to our original true selves, and being able to sleep at night without having to close our doors? I didn’t realize that life could be so simple, just like what Master mentioned,“The more you empty the bottle, the higher it will float in the water. If it is emptied entirely, it will float on the surface completely.” (Lecture One inZhuan Falun) No matter whether we were in the hotel lobby or the airport, fellow practitioners clarified the facts to sentient beings who had a predestined relationship with us. It was amazing that the next day, all of the 40 or so people in our group received replacement tickets for a direct flight to Japan, even though it was in the peak summer season. Thank you, Master!

3. Across Thousands of Miles, I Came for You

Through constant Fa study I have enlightened to the urgency of saving sentient beings through the Shen Yun performances. Master mentioned in “Dafa Disciples Must Study the Fa – Fa Teaching Given at the 2011 Washington DC Metro Area Fa Conference,”

“So that was the period of time when Dafa disciples were able to play a significant role, and they really did have a tremendous impact while promoting Shen Yun—meaning, they helped Shen Yun to save people.”

I have promoted Shen Yun along with other practitioners since last June. Supported by the righteous thoughts of other practitioners, we made appointments with government agencies in about thirty districts of Kaohsiung City. We thus brought the magnificence of Shen Yun to almost every corner of Kaohsiung City, including remote mountainous areas, such as Taoyuan, Liouguei, Maolin, and Namaxia. I still remember when we scheduled a visit to the chief of the Namaxia District, which is adjacent to Xiaolin Village, on a Friday in mid-August. A few days before that the weather forecast predicted that Typhoon Kai Tak was approaching, and it might hit the entire Kaohsiung area on Thursday. The day before the typhoon struck the area, a practitioner called me early in the morning, saying he enlightened to the fact that we should go to Namaxia immediately, as saving sentient beings is something that cannot be delayed. With that, I found the gap between other practitioners and me.

Along the way, we sang Dedu (Be Saved), and we successfully made it over the rugged winding roads with many detours. Because of the typhoons and torrential rain, the existing roads had been washed away, and the car’s navigation system didn’t work at all. When we were at the juncture of two roads, suddenly a car appeared in front of us, as if the driver was waiting for us purposely. When we approached him and asked for directions, he led us over a series of hills. He then told us that he was supposed to go into the mountains in a hurry, but had a strong feeling that he had to lead us to the mountainous village. The other practitioners and I smiled at each other, knowing that our compassionate Master is always with us. After overcoming obstacles, we realized that our destination was only a ten-minute drive away, but the road had collapsed. The alternative road was very steep and slippery, and because our car was not a four-wheel-drive vehicle, we couldn’t make it, though we tried various ways. However, we never considered abandoning our goal. Fortunately, a practitioner intercepted a patrol car, which belonged to the Chunghwa Telecom Co., and it took us to the first village.

After arriving at the office of the district government, we were received by the chief secretary. After talking with us for a while, he answered an incoming phone call. He then told us that the district chief had already returned and invited us to his office upstairs. We went to the chief’s office. But much to our surprise, in addition to the chief, those who were left behind, including my husband, our children, and another practitioner, were in the chief’s office. They were chatting happily, as if they were old friends. Our daughter told me that our car was there, too.

The following events had occurred after we left them: While my husband was trying hard to start the car, suddenly another car pulled over. In addition to the driver, there were a man and a woman inside the car. The man got out of his car and asked about the situation. He said that he had driven the same model car. Thus, after asking another practitioner and my daughter to get into his car, he drove our car along with my husband. Being experienced, he made it through the steep slope. But due to the steepness of the road, they drove very cautiously all the way. Arriving at the flat section, he sighed in relief and asked, “With the weather so terrible, why is it so important for you to go to Namaxia?” My husband explained to him our purpose for going there, and told him that we were supposed to meet with the district chief, but he was out of town, etc. The man then replied slowly, “I am the chief of the Namaxia District.” My husband was so surprised that he asked, “Aren’t you attending a series of meetings in Kaohsiung City?” He replied, “Yes. I left for the meetings early in the morning, but I didn’t know that all the meetings had been cancelled unexpectedly. I thus rushed back to Namaxia. That’s why I met you there.” We shared with him the magnificence of Shen Yun and told him the facts about Dafa. We also ate noodle soup together in the only restaurant in Namaxia. The chief sincerely acknowledged the magnificence of Shen Yun and Falun Dafa.

On our return trip, we got lost for a while, as the road seemed to be washed away. With our righteous thoughts, suddenly a truck appeared to lead us. I will never forget the driver’s look when he stood on the roadside, waved, and bid us farewell. When we returned to Kaohsiung City, it was already about 8:00 p.m. It should have taken us about five hours to get back, but it took 12 hours, yet all of us were still in good spirits. When we returned home, we were surprised to hear the news on TV that said that the typhoon had left Taiwan through a magical route.

This reminds me of my entire family’s trip to New York for the Fa-conference in late August last year. During that time, it was reported that the powerful Hurricane Irene was approaching. The weather forecast had predicted that the entire Manhattan area in New York City would very likely suffer from flooding. Therefore, the biggest evacuation plan in U.S. history was being carried out. While others were evacuated from Manhattan, our group was not affected at all. We went to Central Park to do the exercises, study the Fa, and send forth righteous thoughts together as scheduled. Afterward, the TV news started to report that the hurricane had weakened and disappeared surprisingly. This phenomenon still left many doubts in the minds of everyday people. Dafa practitioners are most fortunate. When we let go of fame, personal interest, and sentimentality, we have nothing to fear. Master said,

“‘What is a Dafa disciple? Who is worthy of being a Dafa disciple?’ If one doesn’t have the requisite predestined relationship, he really cannot come in, and this is the case for those who have just come in, as well.” (“What is a Dafa Disciple”)

I still feel that it is indeed not easy to obtain the Fa at this final stage. I also enlightened that I should further make good use of my own capabilities and help Master to validate the Fa and save sentient beings. In the “Fa-Lecture During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference,” Master said, “Make your own contributions based on your individual abilities and specific talents in different areas.” I will be more diligent, be a qualified Dafa disciple, and act according to Master’s requirements.

Thank you, Revered Master. Thank you, fellow practitioners.

Please kindly point out the areas that I need to improve.

Silent Smile

In the dawn of a pure noble heart
Shines the hope of a sacred new day
And in the light of true kindness we find
All of the fears hidden deep inside fade away.

All of the suffering born in a silent smile
For the sake of a forgotten wish

In the footsteps of true dignity
Walks a figure that carries no name
And on this path of boundlessness, a boundless heart
Travels onward to reach a selfless aim

All of the suffering born in a silent smile
For the sake of a forgotten wish

So when the dark clouds eclipse the sky and blacken the earth
And all hope is lost beneath the bleak frozen cold
Step out with one heart of courage into the storm
And in the wind let the banner of your self unfold

New Zealand Audiences Profoundly Moved by Shen Yun’s Beauty and Inner Meaning

(Minghui.org) As part of its 2013 World Tour, Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company staged two spectacular, awe-inspiring shows in New Zealand’s Civic Theatre in downtown Auckland on February 8 and 9.

Shen Yun “Honors a Heritage,” Says Maori Ambassador

One audience member, Tui-Matira Ranapiri-Ransfield, a Maori Performing Arts Ambassador, traveled three hours to see the opening performance of Shen Yun.

As a leader of the Maori performing arts, Ms. Ranapiri-Ransfield is very interested in and appreciates the value of all traditional cultures.

She came to the show to see classical Chinese dancing techniques and to observe the choreography, but she left feeling struck by the purity of Shen Yun’s expression of traditional Chinese culture. “The dancing this evening comes from a traditional, ancient performing arts background, and I was keen to come along and witness that for myself,” she said.

The Maori leader, herself an accomplished soprano, was also delighted by Shen Yun’s live orchestra and the three vocalists. “The show this evening was exquisite, it was superb, it was moving.”

She liked how the program presented the dances in their true form. “It honors a heritage,” she said.

“I see the discipline, I see the hard work and I see beauty in the performance. The synchronization was just beautiful, classy, and soft—it was a reflection of a culture and its history. It was a reflection of the Falun Dafa philosophy about truth and compassion and tolerance and I see that in the dancing.”

Ms. Ranapiri-Ransfield was referring to the dance, “An Unexpected Encounter,” which portrays the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of the spiritual meditation group, Falun Dafa. “So not only do you talk about [Chinese] history or depict parts of its history of cruelty, I also saw the beautiful things that we are able to appreciate and have gratitude towards in life.”

She especially enjoyed the uplifting dance, “Phoenix Fairies,” which she described as “extraordinary,” and equated it to one of the many “meaningful things” in the show.

Ms. Ranapiri-Ransfield has traveled the world as an ambassador of the Maori cultural arts and is currently working as a teacher and researcher on various projects for her people.

Shen Yun Is “Stunning,” Says Award Winning TV Producer

Also enjoying the show was Vivian Wigby-Ngatai, a New Zealand award-winning television producer.

She described Shen Yun as “amazing” and “Just beautiful, so beautiful!” adding, “All of the dances were so beautiful.”

Her heart was also touched by the digitally animated backdrops, which perfectly interact with the performers. “The backdrop was amazing, absolutely amazing. It was such a beautiful addition to the show—very exciting to see them all flying off and flying back onto the stage. Very clever, very clever,” she enthused.

The live orchestra combines classical Western instruments and traditional Eastern instruments to play original scores.

“The music was very stirring and I liked … traditional Chinese instruments as well as Western instruments [playing] together. They produce a beautiful sound,” she explained.

Ms. Wigby-Ngatai came to see Shen Yun with a group of Maori friends, who all agreed that Shen Yun has a “very strong spiritual feeling.” When asked if she would recommend Shen Yun to her friends, she said she would, as she regarded it as a stunningly beautiful performance.

Journalist and His Family Enjoy Shen Yun

at Shen Yun Performing Arts in Auckland

New Zealand Herald journalist Duncan Gillies attended the show with his family and a friend.

He praised the music and the dance. “We all really enjoyed it. I thought it was a great night out, and very impressive.”

Mrs. Gillies said that both she and her daughter, Yasmina, particularly liked the dance, “An Unexpected Encounter,” which describes a pair of tourists in China who meet Falun Dafa practitioners on Tiananmen Square. “Our daughter had watched something on Falun Dafa before, so that was even more interesting to know a little bit of background” said Mrs. Gillies.

“I was pleased to know what they were talking about [in the dance] and also really horrified at what’s going on,” Yasmina explained [referring to the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in China].

A Colorful and Musical Spectacular,” Says Music Reviewer

Professional music reviewer Andrew Buchanan-Smart, who attended the show with his wife, called Shen Yun “a colorful and musical spectacular.”

Mr. Buchanan-Smart described his experience of Shen Yun as: “amazing choreography, costumes and dancing, absolutely fantastic!” He also enjoyed the “physicality” and “togetherness” of the dancers. “Their leaps and tumbles and jumps, amazing, really enjoying it,” he added.

Mrs. Buchanan-Smart, a garden designer, thoroughly enjoyed the costumes and story-based dances.

“I think the costumes are outstanding,” she said, making special note of Shen Yun’s “colors and the dancers’ precision and accuracy.”

NEW YORK—Classical music lovers may think they have heard it all, but the classical world of music has just opened up new boundaries with Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra’s debut at Carnegie Hall on Oct. 28.

Shen Yun compositions integrate the strengths of Western symphonic instruments with traditional Eastern instruments—creating a sound like no other. In one piece, the two-stringed erhu, along with the woodwinds and muted trumpet, evoke the elegance of the Ladies of the Manchu Court. In another, the trumpets take center stage in an inspiring rendition of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets in C Major, RV 537.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a classical Chinese dance company based in New York. With a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese culture, it has three touring companies that perform on top stages around the world. Each company is accompanied by a complete orchestra.

The Carnegie performance featured over 90 musicians selected from those orchestras and three Shen Yun conductors—Keng-Wei Kuo, Antonia Joy Wilson, and Milen Nachev—took turns with the baton. The program also included masterful solos from Shen Yun’s singers, who perform using bel canto technique while singing Chinese texts. The lyrics and scores of these are all original Shen Yun pieces.

Wang Shouren Knew Right From Wrong

By Epoch Times Staff On October 28, 2012 @ 12:22 am In Culture

Filial piety encompasses many other virtues, including giving gratitude, repaying kindnesses, not forgetting one’s roots, respecting the elderly, and being considerate of others. (Clearwisdom.net)

Filial piety encompasses many other virtues, including giving gratitude, repaying kindnesses, not forgetting one’s roots, respecting the elderly, and being considerate of others. (Clearwisdom.net)

Wang Shouren was a renowned philosopher and educator who lived during the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368–1644).

Even though Shun endured wretched treatment, he responded with goodness.

A father and son once sued each other and asked Wang Shouren to judge their case. After Wang had a few words with them, the father and son embraced each other and wept, and then returned home together.

Someone asked Wang: “What did you say that led them each to enlighten to their own error and repent so quickly?”

Referring to Emperor Shun and his father, Gusou, Wang replied: “I told them that Shun was the most disrespectful son in the world in observing filial piety, and Gusou was the kindest and most loving father.”

Of course, this is anything but the truth. Emperor Shun is regarded as the ancestor of China’s moral culture. He exemplified filial piety to the highest standard. By the time he was 20 years old, his filial piety was known all across the land.

Shun’s mother passed away young, and his stepmother was devious and cruel, while her son, Xiang, was arrogant and bad. The stepmother often spoke ill of Shun in front of Gusou.

Many times the three schemed and tried to think of a way to kill Shun. On one occasion, they asked Shun to repair the rice silo, and then they set the silo on fire. Another time they asked Shun to dig a well, and they dumped rocks and dirt into the well while he was digging.

With protection from heaven, Shun miraculously escaped from disaster every time.

Even though Shun endured wretched treatment, he responded with goodness. He treated his parents with the utmost respect and obedience just the same, without a trace of resentment or negligence, and he maintained good relations with Xiang, treating him with brotherly love and kindness.

Looking For One’s Own Shortcomings

Then why did Wang Shouren say the reverse about Shun and Gusou?

He explained: “Shun always thought of himself as behaving poorly in observing filial piety; therefore, he was able to display filial piety. Gusou always considered himself to be the kindest father, so he was not kind.

“Gusou always thought: ‘I’ve raised Shun since he was small. Why does he not know to please me now?’ Gusou did not know he was being deceived by his second wife. He only saw himself as kind, which made him even less able to be kind.

“In contrast, Shun was always thinking: ‘My father used to love me so much when I was small, but now he no longer loves me; it is because I have not done my best to observe filial piety.’

“Every day Shun considered in what ways he failed to do his utmost to display filial piety. Thus he became ever more able to observe this virtue.

“In the end, Gusou realized his fault and felt remorse for the way he treated Shun. Shun became recognized as the most dutiful son of all time in observing filial piety, and Gusou also became a loving father.”

The same principle applies to the way we treat others and manage our affairs.

When we encounter conflicts, rather than looking for fault in others, we may be reminded of the example of Shun, who always searched within to find his own shortcomings and where he made mistakes.

If we can conduct ourselves in this manner, then we will be able to resolve any conflict, no matter how big.
